Problematic Kids – What Teachers Can Do

Kids are supposed to be cute, kind and obedient, right? But, if you were to encounter the opposite, how would you handle them?

Are you going to get mad, irritated or stubborn as well? Well, the best thing to do when you are in this kind of situation is: be quiet. Yes, never speak any word that could trigger more negative reaction from the one whom supposed to be cute and kind and obedient.

Just observe, listen and wait for them to realize that you have been listening, observing and waiting for them to realize something. If a problematic kid has the needed support to change his behavior, chances are he would look for avenues to do so.

Teachers are mostly trapped in this kind of situation wherein one or a number of their learners have difficulty showing the proper behaviors expected of them. Might be they had not been properly tutored by their parents or adults around them, and now showing disrespect to their teachers, or simply taking their stubbornness to the next level.

Well, here are things to consider before having a fight with problematic kid/s in class:

1. Show you care. Yes, a kid’s trust will be yours once you have shown that you can be trusted. Never initiate any action that could make the situation worse. Try to understand. Listen. Know where they are coming from. Then, do necessary actions upon knowing where you could start your mission.

2. Make them feel loved. When kids feel insecurity because of their parents’ failure in nurturing them, teachers can–and should–do the needed attention. By not overdoing it, they could guide them towards self-confidence and all.

3. Let them understand the situation. Some kids have the ability to get the whole picture of their bad behaviors, only they are having a hard time admitting to themselves and to adults around them that they are making their own existence difficult. Always ask them to put themselves in other people’s perspective so as to get the feeling of being disrespected, hurt or what. By doing so, they would slowly absorb the wisdom of being nice, good and obedient.

4. Help them. Once they have your trust and all, they will do the necessary change in their behaviors. And, of course, they could be one supporters when you are also down and weary and lonely and what.

There you go. Problematic kids are just confused, victims and in need of adult’s understanding. Giving them your time, resources or what could spell a big difference in their quest to finding their spot under the sun, moonlit and star light. Be one caring, loving and nurturing individual to them. Who knows, someday they could be another source of light, love and inspiration for others.

Educational Software For Kids – Learning Starts at Home

There are great ways to continue the learning children do at school at home with educational software for kids. The wealth of topics and subject matter covered in these computer programs is astounding and can help your child learn more information more quickly, nicely rounding out the studies they’re performing for school assignments.

All of my children used a pre-school preparatory software at home before they actually started pre-school and Kindergarten. I found this made a huge difference in their education and the amount of material they knew before they even started school. Learning that’s done on the computer, for a number of reasons, doesn’t seem like work to kids and they’ll often cover even complex topics more easily by being allowed to do so on a platform they view as more of a game station than a learning device.

Parents need a lot of educational tools in their arsenal. Kids who learn quickly and read and write early stand a better chance of doing well in school and in their future careers. My husband and I might have disagreed with our kids about how much time they should spend on any piece of technology, preferring them to play outside or with friends, but when it came to educational software, we always allowed a lot of leeway.

I have three children spread a fair distance apart – all boys, ages 15, 11, and 6 – and I’ve found that the younger two were always interested in what the older child was learning. When our teenager was learning about space and the solar system, the younger two wanted a piece of the action, as well. Not wanting to miss an opportunity to let them learn something new, I found educational software for kids that did a great job covering the planets, stars, and more. This also gave the whole family a nice topic for dinner conversation where we all had a chance to learn more.

Whether your kids are interested in space, math, chemistry, or biology, you can find educational software for kids that handles that subject in a method geared towards children. Take advantage of kids enjoyment of all things technology related and leverage that into a chance to expand young minds.

Kids and Teens – Teaching Kids To Create New Behavior Styles Has Changed

“In spite of six thousand manuals on child raising in the bookstores, child raising is still a dark continent and no one really knows anything. You just need a lot of love and luck – and, of course, courage. – Bill Cosby, Fatherhood, 1986

You may not know that if your kid’s age range is from 8-12 they are called “Tweens”. It is the in-between age of leaving elementary school and before they enter high school. At this age kids have already figured out who their parents are and are depending less and less on them to direct their everyday lives.

The first nine years of a kid’s life it is effective for parents to yell, punish, spank, time-out and pinch the kids when they have performed unacceptable behaviors to get them to change. Those day are behind us and parents must develop new avenues to change behaviors of their “Tween” kids. Parents need to education themselves for every year their kid is developing. There are numerous books written on every year of development. All of us brought books on raising babies, raising toddlers and then start throwing away books and valuable resources for the rest of the years in raising our kids.

It is important for parents to realize the discipline we use on one of our kids will not work on each one of our kids. The only way to pull off being a successful parent is to get to know each one of your kids individually and treat/discipline them accordingly.

Being an only kid in the family has its pro’s and con’s. For those parents with an only child, it is even more important that you read-up on their outlook on life. An only child looks at issues much differently than if they had siblings in their life. Unless you grew up as an “only child” there is no possible way you can understand your kid without reading and having clear communication with your kid. An only child is less likely to share his inner thoughts with you or anyone. When an only child is growing up, they do not have siblings to argue with, sharing toys with siblings, sharing mom and dad with siblings, etc. Which may mean you do not have to discipline this particularly child as often. However, they do have to be taught to change unacceptable behaviors into acceptable behaviors.

Come on parents – read up and education yourselves on your kids and how to facilitate them changing their behaviors when necessary.

Mandala For Kids – Using the Right Brain Education Method!

Mandala is used as a type of right brain training by one of the top kindergartens like Shichida Method, Heguru and more.

These exercises are part of photographic memory trainings.

Children will be able to recall colours on the mandala images when each image is flashed to the child in one second or less.

“Mandala” means “circle” in the traditional Indian language, Sanskrit.

The circle represents a wholeness which can be used as a chart depicting life being connected beyond and within our bodies and minds.

How to use Mandala pictures?

You need two pictures of mandala – one coloured, and the other an outlined version.

1.First, make sure your child is relaxed. You can do this by using breathing and energy ball exercises or alpha music.

2.Once your child is calm, flash the coloured mandala image to your child for 1 to 2 seconds.

3.Next, ask your child to shut his eyes. Ask your child to concentrate and think about the image he just saw.

4.Once he is ready, ask him to colour on the outlined mandala to match the colours on the mandala image you showed him. Your child only needs to draw a stroke of colour in each area. He does not need to colour the entire image.

5.If necessary, let your child correct any mistakes made.

Always remember to flash the images quickly.

This is because the right brain captures the entire image at a glance. When the child shuts his eyes, he will be able to recall the image.

Do not worry if your child is first unable to recall anything you have shown him. The more you practice with your child, the easier it will become for him to recall the mandala colours and images.

Your child’s ability to retain the images will get better with regular exercises.

According to Dr Makoto Shichida, the image will initially be retained for 5 seconds or less, and will eventually be able to be retained for 10 seconds or more.

If your child is able to remember an image for over a minute, he is said to have developed photographic memory.

After all, it’s the responsibility of parents to help their children face the practical challenges of life and find their own space in the society. Experts have identified and invented specific methods of teaching these kids with software tools, one-on-one reading and customized teaching programs, all of which are known to help such kids deal with their comprehension and word identification problems effectively.

Individual-Specific Reading Programs

A wide range of programs have been designed and developed to help kids who struggle with writing and reading due to dyslexia and related issues. There are different specialized programs that focus on different skills, such as reading, phonemic awareness, vocabulary, comprehension, writing and spelling. Based on your child’s requirement and with professional assistance, you would be able to execute the best choice for your kid.

Development of Word Recognition Skills

Specific focus on vocabulary, phonics and work recognition aids in building a base knowledge and activating it to comprehend contents of text while reading improves the child’s fluency. Other aspects like history, math, music, science etc, which require words that are content-specific, should also be taken care of.

  • Be aware of the complete instruction model and strategies that are designed for your child, as there are certain literature programs that specify the teacher’s approach.

3 Ways Parents Waste Valuable Learning Time for Their Kids

Many American children today are falling further and further behind in their education each year because of cuts to school funding. With fewer factory jobs remaining in the U.S., a good education has become essential to finding a well-paying job in today’s information and technology oriented economy. Tomorrow’s economy will be even more competitive, and Americans will be competing for jobs on a global level. All parents want their child to achieve the American Dream. However, the schools do not – by themselves – determine whether children have what they need to succeed. The parents are in the driver’s seat when it comes to how their children’s time is spent outside the classroom. They can make a huge difference in their child’s future by avoiding these common mistakes.

Allowing too much “screen time”

The average American child spends 28 hours each week watching television, which translates into 1,456 hours per year, and 24, 752 hours by the time they turn 18 (assuming they begin at their first birthday, which many do). 24,752 hours is approximately 2 years and 9 months out of their childhood spent staring at a T.V. Time in front of the T.V. is time NOT spent on: reading, exercising, doing puzzles, drawing, playing with other children, doing schoolwork, and other activities that help a child learn and grow as a person. In the time most kids spend in front of the T.V. they could have learned a second language or gotten a black belt in karate!

Failing to make sure their child reads on a daily basis

In New York City, roughly 75 percent of public high school students who enroll in community colleges need to take remedial math or English courses before they can begin college-level work. At the very least this means that college students, or their parents, must pay for additional courses on top of the usual costs of college tuition. According to the National Educational Association Today, the only way for kids to become good readers is to practice. Even small amounts of reading each week add up over the years.

Neglecting the Arts

Many parents believe that art and music are “frills” and don’t realize that the arts can have a major impact on other areas of learning. In a U.C.L.A. study of Chicago area schools, elementary students who attended schools where the arts were integrated into the classroom curriculum outperformed their peers in math who were not in the program. More than 60 percent of these students, involved with the Chicago Arts Partnership in Education, performed at or above grade level on the math section of the Iowa Test of Basic Skills compared with 40 percent of their peers (who could fall further and further behind each year). Any artistic activity from painting, to visiting local art museums, to taking music lessons can have lasting benefits for developing mind.

So, how can parents provide better learning opportunities outside the classroom?

Here are a few suggestions that cost little or nothing in time or money:

Limit or eliminate T.V. Most parents will not get rid of the television entirely, but placing clear limits on viewing time – like no T.V. on school nights – will force kids to find other activities to amuse themselves with (or finish their school assignments). Some parents worry that as soon as they turn off the T.V. their children will complain of being bored, but boredom is often needed as a motivator to get the child to amuse themselves in a productive way – by finding a new hobby, playing a board game with their siblings, or participating in sports.

Go to the library at least once a month. Almost every U.S.household has access to a public library nearby, and many have an interlibrary loan system to provide access to books that their library doesn’t stock. Many have a children’s librarian who can recommend good books and help find them on the shelves. Parents pay taxes for these services, so why not use them?

Start your child off on an art project. It can be as simple as setting up crayons and paper at the kitchen table and prompting them to draw, asking them to make a homemade birthday card, or decorating cookies with colored icing and candies. There are books with kids’ projects in the local library and plenty of free online sites to give parents and kids ideas for activities. Even just looking at different types of painting exposes a child to different art and broadens their horizons.

Environment of a Play School for Kids

Being a parent is the best feeling in the world for anybody. But with the feeling of love and care of being a parent comes the responsibility of the right upbringing of a child. The choices of the parents reflect the child’s future. Thus, a parent is ought to make the best choice for their child in order to make his future shining and bright. As soon as a child is old enough to be sent to school, parents’ worries increase. The biggest concern of any parent is to choose the best play school for their little one. It is really important for a parent to choose the right preschool for their kid because it builds a firm foundation for the child and benefits him in the future.

Many parents ponder over the fact whether it’s even necessary to send their kids to a play school or not. Although it’s just a personal decision of the parent himself but it is absolutely necessary for a parent to send their child to a good nursery school to shape his future beautifully.

Preschools help the child to learn various new things such as letters, numbers, shapes and other such basic information. At this stage, a child gets to learn so much that it would be an unwise decision for a parent to skip this stage of schooling. Thus, when it comes to choosing a play school for their child, a parent must make his decision taking all the facts into consideration. The most important thing to be thought while choosing a play school for a child is to choose the environment which suits the child perfectly.

The environment of the preschool is the most important factor because it has the deepest impact upon the child. The school environment should be child friendly and the interiors of the school must be colorful and attractive. The play school acts as a guiding force for the children and nurtures them with love and care. It helps to inculcate discipline, good habits and manners in the child. When a child goes to a nursery school, he learns to adjust with a new people and discovers a whole new environment. He enters an absolutely new dimension in his life.

Although at first the child takes a little time to adjust in his new surroundings but eventually it becomes a second home for him. As a child spends a good part of his day in the nursery school, he starts adopting the things he learns there. Thus, a preschool’s environment must be designed in such a way as to provide maximum learning experience to the child. It’s the duty of the teachers of the school to convey a sense of comfort to the children so that they feel the warmth and love. This would further encourage them to participate in the activities of the school.

Some important tips that must be kept in mind by the parents while choosing the right preschool for their child are:

  • A parent must enquire about the educational environment of the school before enrolling their child in the school. Also, things such as sports and physical education must be enquired about.
  • Also take into consideration the previous records of the school.
  • One must look into the curriculum style and pattern of the school.
  • The brand value and the background of the school should also be taken into consideration.
  • Choose a school which best suits your child’s choices and interests.
  • The school premises must be attractive and appealing so that the child loves to go to school again and again.
  • There must be a well-designed curriculum which suits the needs of the children.
  • The school teachers and other staff must be cooperative and caring towards the children.

If these requirements are taken into consideration, then a parent would definitely choose the best kindergarten school for their child. It would definitely provide long-term benefits to the child and give him a brighter future. Thus, the parents of every little kid must plan well in advance to choose the right play school for their kid.
